NorCal Premier and new NPL in Southern California add strength to NPL lineup of ENPL qualifiers

CHARLESTON, S.C. (Jan. 11, 2017) - In with the new, and in with the old.

The latest Elite National Premier League (ENPL) announcement introduced two qualifying competitions in the West, both of them NPLs: a new NPL in Southern California and NorCal Premier, a veteran of US Club Soccer programming.

Eight clubs make up the new NPL member in Southern California, which begins with a 2017-18 season: Albion SC, Arsenal, FC Golden State, Irvine Strikers, LA Galaxy, Pateadores, Real So Cal and Surf. These nationally recognized clubs now form a formidable NPL in the southern half of the state.

NorCal Premier is a long-time member of US Club Soccer, featuring affiliations with 217 clubs. Over the years, NorCal Premier has established a bevy of valuable programming for all facets of club soccer: clubs, coaches, players and referees. It hosted the second LaLiga Formation Methodology course last June, bringing in about 270 coaches. A month later, Davis Legacy ’98 represented NorCal Premier at the highest NPL stage, as it clinched the 18-U girls national championship at the 2016 NPL Finals.

Qualifying 14-U to 19-U boys teams from those two organizations will advance to the ENPL Playoffs in June 2018. These teams will earn qualification to the ENPL Playoffs based on their performances throughout the regular season in their respective competitions.

The pair now join previously announced qualifiers in the Southeast, Northeast, Midwest and Texas, in what has quickly become the next level in youth boys programming after U.S. Soccer’s Development Academy.

By providing qualification paths for both team-based and club-based competitions, the ENPL will feature the best boys players in US Club Soccer. The regular season competition within each NPL and Boys ECNL Conference are unique and independently structured; however, consistent technical and competitive standards will apply, and all teams will be focusing on the same postseason destination: the ENPL Playoffs.

Quotes from participating clubs:

  • Dan Chamberlain, NorCal Director of Operations: “The opportunity that we have in front of us, with the coming together of the NPL and the ECNL into the ENPL, is an exciting one. NorCal Premier is proud to be part of the first step that these two organizations are taking together, and we are excited about the prospects of what it could be in the coming years.”
  • Alberto Bru, Real So Cal SC Club Director: “Real So Cal is excited about our membership in the new NPL. This gives our club teams and players a chance to have very good, consistent competition against top clubs in Southern California, while also having an opportunity to compete for a quality national championship.”
  • Jon Szczuka, Pateadores Senior Director of Coaching: “Many top clubs have chosen to join the new NPL in Southern California to help bridge the gap between academy and club soccer by providing a consistent, competitive season throughout the spring. We are looking forward to exposing our players to further professional programming similar to what is provided within the USDA. Our ENPL program will be connected directly to our Pateadores Academy Program.”
