GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 9, 2014) – For 125 teams, a national title is well within reach.
The NPL Finals, the culminating event of US Club Soccer’s National Premier Leagues (NPL) platform, takes over Bryan Park Soccer Complex in Greensboro, N.C., July 10-14.
Formerly known as the NPL Champions Cup, the event features the champions of all 17 NPLs across the United States in the U-13 through U-18 boys and girls age groups. Teams will play several group games before advancing to knock-out rounds to determine the NPL national champion in every age group.
One of the most prestigious championships in the country, the NPL Finals is the targeted destination for all NPL teams throughout the year-long, league-based competition each season.
Top teams from all over the country make up the U-13 through U-18 boys and girls brackets. Each division is diverse. In the U-14 boys, U-15 boys and U-18 girls brackets, no two teams are from the same states.
Formerly known as the NPL Champions Cup, the Finals is a standalone event for the first time this year. Its two predecessors were held alongside the National Cup Finals, US Club Soccer’s cup-based national championship event.
While winning a national title will cement your spot in history, getting to the NPL Finals is an achievement in itself. It takes a dominating presence in league play, individual and group development and plenty of teamwork. Win your respective NPL – a platform of competition and player identification – league, and you’re in. For some leagues, that extends to postseason league play and others are decided by regular season results.
Bryan Park Soccer Complex is an ideal setting for this year’s NPL Finals. It includes 17 Bermuda grass fields, a 3,000-seat McPherson Stadium and new clubhouse with concessions. Carson Porter, former assistant men’s soccer coach at Wake Forest University, called the venue “the best place to play youth soccer in America,” in a quote published on the Greensboro United SA website – the home club of Bryan Park.
