With scouts from both the U.S. Soccer Federation and US Club Soccer’s id2 Program in attendance, a total of 48 teams from across the league in the U-13, U-14 and U-15 age groups came together Oct. 6-8 at Classics Soccer Park in Manheim, Pa., for the Northeast Pre-Academy League Fall Scouting Showcase.
Among the teams posting a perfect record of three wins over the weekend was the U-15 squad from New York Red Bulls, which reached the U-14 championship game of the NPL Champions Cup back in July.
Scouting the event for the U.S. Soccer Federation wereRodrigo Marion and Chris Brewer. Also at the event was id2 Boys’ Program Director Gerry McKeown, who will next head to the first of two fall 2012 id2 Program Training Camps, which will be held Oct. 11-14 at TD Bank Oakwood Soccer Complex in Portland, Conn.
NPL Showcases provide the opportunity for competitive, meaningful games as well as for players to be recognized. US Club Soccer’s id2 Program staff members are on-site to scout players for potential inclusion in id2 Program Training Camps, and U.S. Soccer staff members are on-site to scout players for potential inclusion in Youth National Team camps.
The focus for the Northeast Pre-Academy League will now shift back to the regular season, as teams continue down the road towards the NPL Champions Cup in July 2013. At last season’s NPL Champions Cup, the Northeast Pre-Academy League led all leagues with three finalist teams. All three of the league’s entrants in the NPL Champions Cup reached the final match in their age group.
The NPL has been created to provide a unified, league-based national developmental platform and to elevate and change the competitive youth soccer landscape based upon fundamental principles outlined in US Club Soccer’s 10-year vision.
