South Atlantic Premier League, Northwest Champions League host play weekends to kick off 2016-17 NPL season
CHARLESTON, S.C. (Aug. 24, 2016) - Two NPL member leagues recently hosted "play weekends" to officially kick off the 2016-17 season.
Wake FC, of the South Atlantic Premier League, hosted Charlotte United, Lake Norman and Triangle United SA in a weekend of '02-'05 girls competition at North Main Street Soccer Park in Holly Springs, N.C. Aug. 13-14.
As a club, Wake FC earned a collective record of 6-1-1 across the four age groups.
"It was a great two days of soccer for the four clubs," Wake FC Executive Director David Allred said. "Despite the heat, the girls played great attacking soccer and competed hard at both ends of the field. Each club had some really good moments, and it was a great setting for development."
Across the country, the Northwest Champions League held its play weekend, Aug. 19-21 at 60 Acres Park in Redmond, Wash.
Crossfire Premier used the weekend to catapult to the top of the standings in the '06 boys, '05 boys and '03 boys brackets. On the girls side, FC Nova is on top of three brackets, while ISC Gunners and FC Nova are atop a pair.
Back towards the East Coast, the Gulf States Premier League prepares to begin its 2016-17 season this weekend, Aug. 27-28.
