PALM COAST, Fla. (Jan. 4, 2017) - The 2016 NPL Showcase proved to be arguably the most successful in the showcase’s young history with more than 60 girls teams from Northeast, Southeast and Central states and more than 100 college coaches in attendance.

The NPL Showcase, held Dec. 29-31 at Indian Trails Sports Complex in Palm Coast, Fla., was the third annual event for top NPL girls teams – serving as both a recruiting benefit and another quality event to the NPL calendar. A total of 105 college coaches from 75 programs scouted ‘98/’99, ’00 and ’00 age groups.

“Anytime teams play each other that normally don’t have opportunities to play each other, that’s a rewarding experience for both club and player development,” NPL General Manager Leo Garcia said. “The NPL Showcase has quickly grown into a valuable commodity in the NPL schedule, and we look forward to welcoming even more college coaches and elite competition next year.”

On the final day of the NPL Showcase, three ’00 games were live streamed complimentary of StreamSports. In the opening match of the digital trifecta, PDA Atletica (N.J.) defeated AFC Lightning (Ga.), 5-0. Late second half goals were the difference in the other two matchups, as Virginia Rush (Va.) edged Bayside FC Bolts (R.I.), 3-2, and Connecticut FC (Conn.) took down Jacksonville Armada Youth FC (Fla.), 2-1.

In the ‘98/’99 bracket, only PDA Florida ’98 Blue won all three of its games. In the ’00 age group, NJ Wildcats Troutman NPL, PDA Atletica and Lake Norman SC Eclipse Blue were unscathed through the duration of the showcase. And, among ’01 teams, Penn Fusion ’01 NPL, PDA Madrid, Connecticut FC United NPL ’01, PDA Hornets, Bayside FC Bolts Red NPL 00/01 and Seacoast United ’01 NPL won three games.
