Northeast Girls NPL playoff champions take postseason momentum to 2017 NPL Finals

WILLINGBORO, N.J. (June 22, 2017) – FC Stars of Massachusetts and PDA South headlined the Northeast Girls NPL playoffs, June 17-18 at the Westampton Sports Complex in Willingboro, N.J., as the two clubs combined to win all seven divisions.

Six of those teams now look to add national championships to their trophy cases at next month’s NPL Finals. The Northeast Girls NPL playoffs featured 13-U through 17-U age groups with an additional division for a Pre-ECNL 13-U bracket. FC Stars ’04 won that Pre-ECNL division but will not advance to the NPL Finals. The 18/19-U division was decided in a one-game playoff that FC Stars 98/99 won.

Of the five remaining age groups, PDA South won the 13-U, 14-U and 15-U league championships, while FC Stars cleaned up the rest, adding titles in the 16-U and 17-U and brackets.

Northeast Girls NPL representatives have fared well at the NPL Finals in recent years. In Colorado last year, PDA South’s 14-U and 15-U teams advanced to the semifinals of their respective age groups. FC Stars’ 17-U team was also a semifinalist.

The 2017 NPL Finals, to be held July 13-17 at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind., is the culminating event of year-long, league-based competition in the NPL. The prestigious national championship features qualifiers from all 22 NPLs around the country.
